#WhereInPH: Buddy’s Pancit Lucban at Longganisang Lucban

BY PAUL MICHAEL CAMANIA JARAMILLO

I first tried Buddy's Pancit Lucban when my friend Abby celebrated her birthday last July.

I can’t remember how long I’ve wanted to eat at Buddy's until my friends Badette and Rogelio took me there for a breakfast. On my way to office, I always pass by Buddy's Pancit Lucban restaurant in Kakarong and Kalayaan streets in Makati City.

I tried their Pancit Lucban and sago't gulaman. My favorite? Their Budin, the cassava cake.

Salvador “Buddy” Veluz decided to make use of the piece of land owned by his family which was ideal for farming and started growing crops like radish, sweet potato, and Baguio beans. According to an Inquirer article, Buddy transported and sold his produce to Divisoria, Manila with his wife. One day, they noticed that their harvest was infested by pests, causing it to have black spots. Knowing that the harvest may be wasted, Buddy salvaged the beans and instead, made fresh lumpia out of it.

From the small space of eatery shared with his brother Agot’s LPG store in Lucban, Buddy  finally put up his own restaurant. Thus, the first branch of Buddy’s Pancit Lucban was opened.

Buddy’s remains to be competitive. Today, it has 11 branches in the country-five in the Quezon province, six in Metro Manila.

Buddy’s best-sellers also vary to where it is located. In Quezon, customers usually order hardinera, the province’s variation of embutido, and while in Manila, their pancit Lucban, longganisa Lucban, sisig and porkchop steak are the favorites.

Now I know what to try next time - Buddy's hardinera and longganisa Lucban.

What makes their branches unique is the interior - decorated with colorful chandeliers made of rice kiping, sunflowers, and indigenous products from Quezon, all inspired from the Pahiyas Festival.

Buddy’s Pancit Lucban, which is priced at P139 for a plateful that can be shared by two to three people, is the kind of noodle dish that customers would love.

Buddy’s pancit dishes come in medium (starts at P690, for 8 to 10 people) and large (starts at P1,100, for 11 to 15 people) bilaos.

The restaurant also offers sizzlers and steaks, barbeque and grills with rice.

For breakfast and lunch, you may try silogs, Crispy Buntot ng Tanigue, Paksiw na Lechon, Pork Molo, and Daing na Bangus.

For merienda, you may order Super Buddy Burger and sandwiches. For your salad and dessert - Buddys Halo-Halo and Suman.

Buddy's Pizza is also a must-try - Hawaiian Supreme, Longanisang Lucban at Kesong Puti Supreme, Chicken BBQ & Tomato Supreme, Tuna & Mushroom Supreme, Vegetarian Supreme, Bacon & Pepperoni Supreme.
