WHERE IN METRO MANILA: Full of flavor? Experience Singapore's Boon Tong Kee

After our SM MOA By The Bay adventure, we need to satisfy ourselves with Singapore's flavor.

We found the first branch of the Singaporean restaurant chain Boon Tong Kee in the Philippines in SM Mall of Asia.

Boon Tong Kee also has a branch at Rockwell’s Power Plant Mall in Makati and along Tomas Morato in Quezon City beside Burgoo. Another one is at the new UP Town Center along Katipunan.

Starting as a small chicken rice stall in Singapore’s Chinatown in 1979, Boon Tong Kee has grown into an international franchise.

Like other restaurants offering Singapore cuisine, the initial interest in Boon Tong Kee among Filipino foodies was mainly due to the Hainanese chicken rice, which is listed on the menu as “Signature Boiled Chicken” and comes in three portions – quarter (P245), half (P455) and whole (P845) – with the chicken rice shaped like a pyramid.

Another best-selling dish is the Crispy Cereal Prawn (P375 for regular and P655 for large), which is as tasty as it looks, especially with those oat strings covering the prawns.

Crispy Roast Chicken (P235 for quarter, P425 for half and P755 for whole) is a fried version of the Signature Boiled Chicken.

Fried Spare Ribs with Zhen Jiang Sauce (P395), which is served with fried buns is like an Asian version of American barbecue pork ribs.

You may also try Fried Beef Fillet (P295) which has two version - with Spring Onion and Ginger, and Black Pepper.

Coffee Pork Ribs (P295) is a must try. It is one of the favorite dishes in Boon Tong Kee Singapore.  They use the same exact sauce mix from Singapore.

You have to try Deep Fried Prawns with Salad (P325 for regular and P595 for large). It has candy sprinkles.

Their Crispy Beancurd  (P185) is a deep fried, pillowy soft beancurd cubes with a light, crisp coating.

For dessert, they have Green Tea Creme Caramel (P145), Pulot Hitam (P145) and Sago-Gula Melaka with Vanilla Ice Cream (P145).
