President Benigno Aquino III has declared 2014 as “Iglesia ni Cristo Centennial Year,” to mark the 100th founding anniversary of what he described as the “largest homegrown Christian church in the Philippines.”
Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said Friday, July 4, that Aquino signed on July 2 Proclamation 815 "Declaring Year 2014 as Iglesia ni Cristo Centennial Year."
The same proclamation likewise directed the Postmaster General to cause the design, printing and issuance of a special postage stamp to commemorate the said event.
The President, in Memorandum Circular No. 66 issued July 3, formed "Task Force Sentenaryo" to "take charge of government actions and responses... ensure smooth coordination among public and private sectors, maintain peace and order, ensure the safety of participants, and prepare a traffic management plan for the efficient and smooth transport of persons and goods" during the celebration.
Headed by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino, the task force is also composed of Secretaries of the Department of National Defense, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Health and Presidential Communications Operations Office.
Other members of the group are Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Chief of Philippine National Police, Chairman of Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, General Manager of Philippine Ports Authority, General Manager of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Director of Toll Regulatory Board and a representative of Iglesia ni Cristo.
Considering the large number of Filipinos from here and abroad who will participate in the said event, to be held on July 27 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan, "Task Force Sentenaryo" will be in charge of all actions and responses in connection with the said event, he said.
