Legal drama series ‘Ipaglaban Mo’ returns on ABS-CBN

PRESS RELEASE FROM ABS-CBN

Photo from ABS-CBN

Atty. Jose Sison, alongside his son Jopet Sison, once again empowers Filipinos with knowledge of their legal rights and obligations as the hit legal drama anthology “Ipaglaban Mo” finally returns on ABS-CBN beginning Saturday (June 7).

“Ipaglaban Mo” was one of the most top-rating and longest-running programs on TV back in the ’90s. Aside from legal advice, the compelling dramatization of real-life events also captivated viewers. The show was such a hit that the line “Kapag may katwiran… ipaglaban mo!” became a popular phrase, even until now. “Ipaglaban Mo” was last seen on ABS-CBN in 1998.

Atty. Sison is positive that viewers will again embrace its newest run. “Hopefully it will become a hit once more so that a lot more of our countrymen will be educated,” he wrote in his column in a national broadsheet.

Every story to be shown in “Ipaglaban Mo” weekly has gone through the meticulous supervision of today’s respected directors, which include Cong. Lino Cayetano, Eric Quizon, Ricky Rivero, Rechie del Carmen, Erik Salud, and Manny Palo, who directed the pilot episode airing this Saturday (June 7).

For its premiere offering titled “Hindi Ko Sinasadya Yaya,” “Ipaglaban Mo” tackles children’s rights and the age of discernment through the story of 7-year-old “RJ” (Izzy Canillo), who accidentally shot dead his nanny “Yaya Miling” (Shamaine Buencamino).

“Micmic” (Michelle Vito), Yaya Miling’s only child, sought justice for her mother, but how can she win her legal battle if the accused was a minor and the crime was an accident?

Also joining the cast this week are Lara Quigaman, James Blanco, and Dionne Monsanto.

Man sues NYC for $2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

A Manhattan man has filed a two undecillion dollar lawsuit against New York City and basically everyone in it.

Anton Purisima, 62, is suing New York City, Au Bon Pain, Hoboken University, LaGuardia Airport, the MTA, and thousands of others for.

He seeks damages for "civil rights violations, personal injury, discrimination on national origin, retaliation, harassment, fraud, attempted murder, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and conspiracy to defraud," the New York Post reports.

What is one trillion, times one trillion, times one trillion, times two? With a 2 followed by 36 zeros, the figure appears like so:

$2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Purisima has previously sued the People’s Republic of China and several major banks including Wells Fargo, JP Morgan and Wachovia.

His claims range from an infected middle finger he suffered when he was bit by a 'rabies-infected' dog on a bus, to a Chinese couple taking pictures of him at a hospital. He said no money in the world could satisfy him, so his damages are priceless. - with report from The Huffington Post. Photo from Reuters

Michael Jackson, in hologram form, performs at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards

The Michael Jackson performance on the 2014 Billboard Music Awards was the result of nearly half a year of planning, choreography and filming, not to mention the development of new technology. Producers of the Billboard Music Awards did not see even a portion of the film until eight days before the broadcast.

"We've been talking about it for the last five months and while we were talking about it they were still inventing the process," says BBMA director and producer Larry Klein. "It was really strange talking about something that did not exist."

Jackson, in hologram form, performed "Slave to the Rhythm" midway through Sunday night's show with a five-piece band and 16 dancers live onstage. Jackson appeared in gold jacket, white T-shirt and brick red trousers on a set modeled on the art work for the album "Dangerous," an appropriate choice as the track was recorded in 1991 with L.A. Reid and Babyface during the sessions for that album. Released this week on "XSCAPE," which is neck-and-neck with the new Black Keys album for No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week, the track was produced by Timbaland.

BBMA producers Dick Clark Productions built a special stage at the rear of the MGM Grand Arena that was used only for the Jackson performance. Dancers moved through aisles as Jackson was seen rising from a throne, walking down steps before going into several trademark routines, a moonwalk being one of the them. Lasers, streams of flames and dancers in ancient costumes were part of the film.

Klein shot it to give the presentation the feel of a live performance. "You were watching the magic of Michael Jackson just like you would have when he was performing," says Klein.

The selection of "Slave to the Rhythm" for the hologram performance was made late last year; Jackson associates the Talauega brothers and Jamie King were brought in to choreograph and direct the video, which was produced by Pulse Evolution and Tricycle Logic.

"At the time we made the decision," says Jackson's lawyer and adviser John Branca, "'Slave to the Rhythm' felt like a song was something people could dance to, a potential club song. We talked to Jamie King, who directed the Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil shows and we all felt the song was very likeable."

The Talauega brothers, Rich and Tone, were brought on right after the new year and they started to draw up dance moves for Jackson and the other dancers in the film. Their involvement with Jackson dates back to the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards; they also choreographed the HIStory tour in 1997 and if one had to guess, the image of Michael used in the performance appears to be from that era based on his hair and clothing.

"We knew we didn't need to go so far left field with his dance moves -- we just kept it within his world," Rich Talauega says. "Its just the way you reconfigure his steps so it looks different. You're still speaking the same language, it's just a different dialect."

Tone Talauega, who was still in high school when he started working with Jackson, says they studied the singer's moves and had small things adjusted - the angle of a hand, the tilt of his head. The performance is "classic Michael, but we put our spice on it," he says.

Demand for the Jackson hologram was considerable, but in the end Branca and the estate felt it needed to be shown with a live audience.

"It's so important to experience Michael Jackson in a live setting," Branca says. "This is something where we wanted a live performance in front of a live audience and nothing speaks to that more than an awards show."

Kris Aquino to shoot 'Feng Shui' sequel with Coco Martin for 2014 MMFF

Actress-host Kris Aquino confirmed that she will be doing a sequel to her hit 2004 horror film "Feng Shui," which will also be directed by Chito S. Roño.
In an interview with reporters on Sunday, Aquino said the film will be an entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

I think I'm also allowed to reveal already -- balik tambalan namin ni direk Chito Rono because 10 years after magbabalik ang 'Feng Shui. At pinakanakakakilig na part diyan ay first time na magsasama namin sa movie ni Coco Martin.

"Feng Shui" was the first in a series of horror hits that Aquino did for Star Cinema, earning her the tag "Box-office Horror Queen."

In the original movie, which earned more than P130 million at the box office when it was released, she played a wife who must save her family from a curse brought about by a "bagwa."

Last month, Aquino announced that "Feng Shui" is now available for download on iTunes after it was digitally remastered.

Benhur Luy files list broadcast journalists

Journalists also received cash gifts from alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles according to accounting entries in the files of principal whistle-blower Benhur Luy.

According to a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI), a list of Luy's accounting entries showed several prominent journalists and media personalities were given cash gifts from Napoles.

The report said these news personalities received the following amounts anytime between 2004 and 2008:

  • Korina Sanchez of ABS-CBN, P50,000
  • Mike Enriquez of GMA, P50,000
  • Deo Macalma of DZRH, P715,000
  • Ray Pacheco, P715,000
  • Luchi Cruz-Valdes of TV5, and formerly of the Probe Team and ABS-CBN
  • Unnamed TV and radio personality, P2 million
  • Erwin Tulfo of TV5, P245,535
  • Carmelo del Prado Magdurulang, P245,535
  • Bon Vivar, P10,000

Several of the journalists and media personalities identified have issued statements to deny the allegations.

Enriquez said in an interview that was aired on GMA News TV’s Balitanghali:

Magkahalong galit at lungkot [ang nararamdaman ko.] Hindi totoo yun. Bakit gagawin ito sa isang katulad ko, na wala namang ginagawa? Isa lang akong anchorman, isang mamamahayag lang na walang ginagawa.

Enriquez also questioned the authenticity of Luy's list, saying it was unsigned.

Alam kong di yun totoo, [dahil] walang pirma. Sabi nila nasa file daw, pero walang pirma. Pag walang pirma [ang affidavit,] madaling magdagdag o magbawas.

In a statement from Enriquez published by the Inquirer, the veteran newscaster said he abides by GMA’s strict code of ethics.

In a statement released Sunday afternoon, GMA Network said it does not have any reason to doubt Enriquez's statements.

Mr. Enriquez has always adhered to the high level of professionalism required by GMA and it stands by him in the face of these baseless charges.

The PDI report said a certain Mon Arroyo, a former television director, would act as a conduit for the media personalities. Arroyo allegedly received almost P500 million, as did the media consultant of senator Vicente Sotto III, Jen Corpuz, who is alleged to have received P1,180,000.

Arroyo on Saturday sent the Inquirer a sworn statement in which he vehemently denied being involved in any media payoffs by Napoles, either for himself, Sanchez, Enriquez or any journalist.

I am writing this affidavit after I learned that a story is being written by one Nancy Carvajal implicating my name to an alleged solicitation of funds from Ms Janet Lim-Napoles allegedly to buy gifts for media people.

In a statement published on InterAkyson.com, Valdes denied any knowledge of the supposed “representation expense” allegedly disbursed to Mon Arroyo on her behalf. She said that in the period cited (2004-2008), she was no longer a part of the Probe Team. Valdes also chastised the Inquirer for the “reckless inclusion” of her name in the Luy list, which, she said, is “largely hearsay” and has no legal basis.

Sanchez, the wife of Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, also denied receiving any money from Arroyo. She said she only met Napoles in 2013 when she was assigned to do an interview with her. "I am dismayed that an unsubstantiated lie such as this should be given as much attention. Because how do you prove a negative?" asked the ABS-CBN news anchor.

The Inquirer is not naming the prominent TV and radio host who collected more than P2 million from officials of the National Agribusiness Corp. (Nabcor), the state-owned agency that was used as a vehicle in the scam to divert congressional pork barrel funds to the ghost projects of the bogus Napoles NGOs and subsequently to the pockets of Napoles and her lawmaker accomplices, as two former Nabcor officials, who have applied to become state witnesses, have yet to provide documentary evidence.

The TV personality hosts an early morning show and cohosts a late afternoon radio public affairs program, both of which air on weekdays.

'The Buzz' returns with Boy Abunda, Kris Aquino, Toni Gonzaga as hosts

Kris Aquino and Toni Gonzaga returned to 'The Buzz' on Sunday, joining Boy Abunda again as the show's hosts.

Gonzaga, who bade the entertainment talk show goodbye along with Charlene Gonzales last October 2013, said she only learned about her return recently.
Two weeks ago, nag-guest ako sa ‘Aquino & Abunda Tonight’ tapos sabi ni Ate Kris, ‘I’m excited to work with you.’

Aquino left 'The Buzz' in 2010 following the victory of her brother, President Benigno Aquino III, in the last Presidential elections.

Villaroel will co-host on “Kris TV.” De Belen is reportedly going to do a television series.

PILOT EPISODE

Daniel Padilla interview with Gozaga

Why Vice Ganda split up with boyfriend

We are separated but we are never apart.

In an interview with Aquino, Vice Ganda related how he and his boyfriend, who is reportedly a basketball player, first met.

Nag-meet kami, common friends.

Saying their separation was mutual, Vice Ganda said:

I believe that the only way to keep him is to let him go.

Despite this, Vice Ganda said he will forever treat his former boyfriend as his best friend.

We are separated but we are never apart.

Mabuting tao kasi talaga 'yun.

Vice Ganda and his former boyfriend have known each other for five years.

Coco Martin on DNA test, Nora Aunor

After choosing to stay silent amid reports disputing the years-long allegation that he has a child out of wedlock, Coco Martin, for the first time, opened up about his feelings about undergoing a DNA test.

Martin admitted that he took a DNA test to confirm whether the child of sexy actress Katherine Luna is his.

Dumating 'yung time, nagshu-shooting ako ng ‘Born To Love You’ sa Luneta. Nandun 'yung bata and 'yung lola.
