Michael Christian Martinez win gold at Triglav Trophy

 
 
Michael Christian Martinez rebounded with a first place finish in the senior men’s division at the Triglav Trophy International Figure Skating Tournament in Jesenice, Slovenia on Sunday, April 6.

The 17-year-old Martinez of the Philippines led all skaters with 63.29 points in the short program before finishing the free skate with a final score of 195.13.

Keiji Tanaka of Japan came in second with 189.83 while Ryuju Hino of Japan finished third with 183.06.

Martinez, who is the first Southeast Asian figure skater to compete at the Winter Olympics, is scheduled to return to the Philippines on April 20.

Filipina-American Samantha Cabiles finished 7th in the junior ladies division with a score of 100.04. Elizabet Tursynbayeva of Kazakhstan finished first with a score of 150.68.
