The final book in the "Divergent" trilogy will be split into two movies, Lions Gate said on Friday, April 11, following the same formula the studio used for the upcoming final installments of "The Hunger Games" series.

The first Allegiant movie is scheduled to be released on March 16, 2016, with the second coming out on March 24, 2017.

Divergent has quickly made a box office star of Shailene Woodley, who will reprise her role in all three sequels as Tris Prior, the 16-year-old girl who finds herself a target as one of few in her futuristic society who defy categorization into one of five personality-based factions.

The second film in the franchise, "Insurgent," is set to begin production next month with a release date of March 20, 2015. Theo James stars alongside Woodley in the films.

Production on Insurgent will begin in Atlanta in May and Robert Schwentke will be filling the director’s chair that Neil Burger sat in for the first movie.
