Australian guy orders at Jollibee in straight Filipino

A white guy takes his Filipino language skills to the next level by ordering food at Filipino fast food chain Jollibee, where he surprises the Filipino staff, and calls the cult classic "Chicken Joy" by a direct translation – Kaligayahan ng Manok.

Chris Urbano is an Australian host of YouTube channel ‘Maputing Cooking’ (White Cooking)’ who doesn’t only love Pinoy food, but speaks the Filipino language as well.

His videos often include the procurement process of the ingredients he will use – a trip to the palengke (market), for example.

The Aussie guy is one of those few foreigners who doesn’t hide his penchant for local dishes, just like Nathan Allen, the American who defended Filipino foods from Polish female blogger who wrote the article“I Would Rather Go Hungry Than Eat Filipino Street Food Again!”

He also shows off his sense of humor – ordering a "Pacquiao" burger (in reference to Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao), when he really wanted a Champ burger.

For the video below, he wrote:

“Jollibee is an iconic Filipino brand, but l’ve noticed they hardly speak Tagalog there anymore — the whole menu is in English now. So I wanted to put the Pinoy back in Jollibee by placing my entire order in deep Tagalog.”
