2 Filipinas made it to 'Asia's Next Top Model' finale

In the April 2 episode of the second season of the reality TV show “Asia’s Next Top Model,” Filipinas Jodilly Pendra and Katarina Rodriguez were chosen to advance to the finale along with Malaysia’s Sheena Liam.

Earlier in the episode, Pendra, Rodriguez, Liam and Japan’s Marie Nakagawa were tasked to do catwalk exercises, as well as a shoot for Harper's Bazaar magazine.

Pendra and Rodriguez were the first two contestants to make it to the finale, while Liam and Nakagawa battled for the last spot. Nakagawa was eventually sent home and Liam joined the two Filipinas in the Top 3.

A 20-year-old graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, Pendra took up an information system degree in college and has been working in the modelling industry for quite a while now.

In a previous interview with The Philippine Star, Pendra said modelling helped her pay for her education as her family could not afford to pay her tuition in full.

“I was forced to model, to go into the modeling industry, because I needed to pursue my studies. I really, really wanted to finish my studies because my father died before I graduated from college.”

Rodriguez, on the other hand, is 21 years old and is taking up philosophy and business management at the De La Salle University.

A newbie in the modelling world, Rodriguez said it was her friends who urged her to join the show.

“I joined the show because I always wanted to try and go for it. My barkada really believed in me, they pushed me to at least audition. They were saying, ‘You’re 21, you’re getting old.’ So I auditioned and actually got in.”

This is not the first time a Filipino made it to the finals of “Asia’s Next Top Model.” In its first season, Philippine contestant Stephanie Retuya also made it to the top 3 but lost to Jessica Amornkuldilok of Thailand.

The new “Asia’s Next Top Model” will be revealed on April 9.
