Ilocos Norte congressman scores selfie with Pope Francis
BY PAUL MICHAEL CAMANIA JARAMILLO
On his Instagram account, Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Rodolfo Fariñas posted a selfie photo with Pope Francis.
"Selfie of my life, with Pope Francis, after the Canonization of Saints John XXIII and John Paul II! Praise The Lord!"
It was taken after the canonization of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII at the St. Peter's Square at the Vatican last Sunday, April 27.
A short video clip from Italy's Repubblica TV shows Fariñas apparently took the selfie while the Pope was still shaking hands and talking to Philippine Ambassador to the Holy See Mercedes Tuason.
The manner in which Fariñas took the photograph raised the question on whether he acted properly in front of the Catholic leader.
Fariñas was a standout during the impeachment trial of former Chief Justice Renato Corona because of his especially memorable “Palusot’’ speech delivered as part of the prosecution’s summation.
