LTFRB suspends Florida bus after Mt. Province fatal crash | What you need to know about G.V. Florida Transport Inc.?

 
 
 
The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has imposed a 30-day suspension on G.V. Florida Transport Inc. after one of its units figured in a fatal accident in Bontoc, Mountain Province on Friday, February 7.

The legal team of the LTFRB served the suspension order at Florida Transport's Sampaloc, Manila terminal at 9:20 a.m. Saturday and at the Cubao terminal at 10:30 a.m.
 
The passenger bus with plate number TXT 872 fell off a deep ravine at around 7:20 a.m. on Friday, leaving 14 people dead.
 
Among the fatalities were comedian Tado, whose real name is Arvin Jimenez, and two foreign tourists -- Canadian national Alex Loring and Deutch national Anne Martina Adriana Van De Ven.

Two of the fatalities have yet to be identified.
 
At least 32 others were injured in the accident, including the driver who claimed that the brakes did not work.

The bus came from its terminal in Sampaloc, Manila and was bound for Bontoc, Mt. Province when the accident occurred.
 
Police investigators who spoke to some witnesses said the bus had "engine problems" but the possibility of human error cannot be discounted.
 
G.V. Florida Transport, Inc. is a Philippine bus company incorporated in 1999 by the brothers George and Virgilio Florida, Jr., and it is one of the major bus companies in Northern Philippines.
 
G.V. Florida Transport ferries goods and passengers from Metro Manila to Cagayan Valley Region and Ilocos Region. Also, it operates inter-provincial routes between neighboring provinces in Cagayan Valley.
 
 
G.V. Florida Transport is noted for being the first Philippine bus company to introduce the "Sleeper class", with Higer and Golden Dragon sleeper buses currently servicing Manila-Tuguegarao,and Manila-Laoag-Tuguegarao routes.
 
A sister bus company, GMW Florida Trans Inc., is being operated by the other siblings of George and Virgilio Florida. This company serves the Santiago-Cauayan-Tuguegarao-Laoag and Tuguegarao-Abra via Bantay/Vigan routes.
 
G.V. Florida has employed various types of fare classes. These are:
Ordinary Fare: (Operating as Dagupan Bus Co. Inc.) seats 50-60 passengers with no Air Conditioner
Regular Fare : Seats between 45-50 passengers.
Deluxe Class : Seats 41-45 passengers with Restroom.
Executive Deluxe Class : Seats 41 passengers with more leg room, Restroom, Air-suspension
Super Deluxe Class: 2x1 Spacious seats, 29 seater, 2 LCD, Restroom.(non-stop travel)
Sleeper Class : 35 Bunk bed's, 4 T.V.,Restroom for Manila-Tuguegarao travels.(non-stop travel)
 
According to the LTFRB, G. V. Florida Transport Inc. has a total of 238 units.
 
Ten of these, however, were illegally bought from a small company owned by a certain Mr. Que.
 
These 10 illegally-acquired units include the ill-fated bus in Bontoc, Mountain Province.
 
The LTFRB added that the ill-fated Florida bus also used a fake license plate.
 
The LTFRB said it is now mulling to also issue a suspension order against the G.V. Florida Transport Inc.'s divisions and subsidiaries, which incude the Dagupan Bus Line and Ballesteros Bus.
