Cameras will started rolling on April 4 for the third big-screen team-up of the popular love team of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
Padilla and Bernardo’s last movie together was “Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay,” which was among the most-watched movies at the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival.
"She's Dating the Gangster" centers on 17-year-old Athena Dizon, who strikes a deal with school heartthrob Kenji delos Reyes to pretend to be his girlfriend.
The first trailer "She's Dating The Gangster," Star Cinema's movie adaptation of the best-selling book, has been released.
In the 90-minute teaser, 17-year-old Athena (Bernardo) strikes a deal with school heartthrob Kenji (Padilla) to pretend to be his girlfriend, in the hope of making his ex-girlfriend jealous.
As in the popular novel by Bianca Bernardino, the movie is set in the '90s, which is made evident in the trailer with the fashion choices of the characters and their bulky gadgets.
The trailer also gives a glimpse of Bernardo and Padilla playing different characters, apparently at the present time. Padilla's character is surprised to know that his father was a gangster, whose "great love" is revealed to be Athena.
“She’s Dating the Gangster” had its debut in media as an online book published in Wattpad.
Afterwards, Summit Books published it last March 2013. The book consistently figured in the bestselling charts.
Star Cinema will release “She’s Dating the Gangster,” directed by Cathy Garcia Molina, on July 16.
KathNiel topped the list of love teams featured in fan-fiction on Wattpad, an online community for discovering and sharing stories.
Wattpad has 25 million unique monthly users, 20% of which are Filipinos.
A number of Filipino users whose stories first appeared on Wattpad have also been picked up by publishers and are now selling well in bookstores, including "Diary ng Panget" by HaveYouSeenThisGirl (PSICOM) and "She's Dating the Gangster" by Bianca B. Bernardino (Summit).
She's Dating a Gangster is a partnership between Summit Media and Star Cinema, as part of the production house’s 20th anniversary celebration.
