The Philippine population is expected to hit 100 million this year from 97.35 million in 2013, according to estimates by the Commission on Population.

“Definitely in the third or fourth quarter of this year, we will be more than 100 million,” PopCom executive director Juan Antonio Perez III said.

The agency's calculation is based on the yearly 2.04-percent population growth rate.

The commission projects that the country's population will be at 101.2 million this year, and to over 200 million after 34 years.

Perez noted that to support the rising population, more investments in social services such as health and education, and infrastructure would be required.
