'Magic: The Gathering' movie in the works

 
 
'Magic: The Gathering' is headed to the big screen.

The 20th Century Fox has acquired the screen rights to 'Magic: The Gathering.' Fox reportedly wants to make a franchise "on the scale of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings."
 
The studio has enlisted Simon Kinberg, the Fox-based writer-producer who is also helping shepherd the 'X-Men' and 'Fantastic Four' universes at the studio, to produce the adaptation.

The Magic phenomenon began in the '90s, spreading throughout comic book shops and schools, eventually leading to organized tournaments in the US. In 1999, multinational toy brand Hasbro bought Magic developers Wizards of the Coast.
 
Today, the MTG realm may be explored not just through the cards, but through digital games, ebooks, novels, and comic books as well. In addition, Spellslingers, an online show featuring the latest cards and "adrenaline-paced battles," may be viewed on YouTube.
