After the high-profile unveiling of Anne Curtis as "Dyesebel" in ABS-CBN's TV adaptation of the Mars Ravelo creation, two more iconic "Komiks" characters have been announced to be next in line for a modern take helmed by the network.
In a new trailer for "Dyesebel" released Saturday, Darna and Captain Barbell are revealed to be the first three, along with the mermaid character, to star in a new adaptation among the Ravelo creations now licensed by ABS-CBN.
The deal, which was formalized in April last year, grants the Kapamilya network rights to 13 titles or characters created by the late novelist. ABS-CBN has yet detail, however, which 10 other Ravelo properties are included in the contract.
In October, Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos said Angel Locsin, who played Darna in a 2005 TV series, is set to portray the heroine anew in an upcoming movie produced by the ABS-CBN film outfit (SEE: The new Darna costume which was revealed by Noel Layon Flores).
The most recent TV incarnation of Darna is actress Marian Rivera, who starred in a 2009 series by GMA-7. The same network also produced the 2011 series starring Richard Gutierrez as Captain Barbell, the most recent take on the character.
Gutierrez' contract with GMA Network expired last May 28, 2013. He did not renew his contract after 11 years of being a Kapuso artist. Annabelle Rama, Gutierrez' mother, also mentioned that they will announced future engagement of Gutierrez on January 21. Will he transfer to ABS-CBN?
