Selena Gomez cancelled her concert to battle Lupus?

Former Disney star and pop singer Selena Gomez announced on her official website Friday that she has cancelled her upcoming tour dates, including a stop in the Philippines.

"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them. But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be. To my fans, I sincerely apologize and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me."

The tour, dubbed "Stars Dance," kicked off in August this year and was slated to have performances until February 2014.

Gomez was scheduled to arrive in the Philippines on January 29 to perform at the Araneta Coliseum. The star also cancelled tour dates in Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.

The pop singer is suffering from the autoimmune disease Lupus, website PerezHilton reported Sunday, December 29.

According to the source of the report, Selena's rise in symptoms, which include facial swelling, extreme fatigue, and joint pain, have convinced her to take it easy.

Here are 3 famous people who had and are currently battling lupus:

Ferdinand Marcos The late dictator died due to systemic lupus erythematosus in 1989.
Michael Jackson American journalist John Randall Anthony Taraborrelli's biography of the late King of Pop stated that aside from being diagnosed with vitiligo, Jackson also had lupus. Both diseases made him sensitive to sunlight and his constant exposure to it caused the Lupus' recurrence.

Lady Gaga The pop diva announced on Larry King that she was tested "borderline positive" for Lupus. She added that the disease, which can also be transferred genetically is prevalent in her family. To avoid complications, she has been advised by doctors to live a healthier lifestyle.
