Julia Montes, Bea Alonzo, KC Concepcion, Kristine Hermosa, Sarah Geronimo, Anne Curtis for Dyesebel?

ABS-CBN has started airing teasers for Dyesebel, the Kapamilya adaptation of one of the most celebrated works of Mars Ravelo. The fantasy series will start airing first quarter of 2014.

The 16-second clip, which was shortly uploaded on ABS-CBN's YouTube page, shows a coral reef and fish, and later a glimpse of a long-haired mermaid with her back turned to the camera.

Comments ranged from excitement to surprise as well as speculation as to which actress will don the orange mermaid tail.

Among those mentioned were Julia Montes, Bea Alonzo, KC Concepcion, Kristine Hermosa, Sarah Geronimo and Anne Curtis.

"We have auditions for the title role, but as of now, we haven't yet chosen anyone to play the role of Dyesebel. It will be the biggest project for 2014 just like Juan Dela Cruz, and we are preparing for this," Dreamscape Productions publicity head Eric John Salut said.

Netizens are pushing the pop princess to join the audition for the role of Dyesebel. Many of them believe that Geronimo could play the role of Dyesebel perfectly not just because of her popularity but her innocent looks as well.

Some reports said that comebacking Kapamilya actress Hermosa is set to star in the said teleserye.

Locsin was once considered for the role of Dyesebel. However, the actress is now confirmed to play the role of Darna, not in a teleserye but in a movie soon to be released by Star Cinema (read story here).

On Instagram on Friday, November 29, Concepcion posted a photo of Disney's red-haired mermaid Ariel with the caption: "Under the sea... Wish I could be... Part of that world (love) mermaidmoment."

Concepcion's followers believe that Concepcion is starting to give a hint that she will be playing "Dyesebel."

In her previous guesting on Kris TV, Concepcion admitted that it was her childhood dream to become a mermaid.

Dyesebel, who first made a splash in the 1950s as a mermaid shunned by her kind for being born to human parents, was last portrayed by actress Marian Rivera in a GMA-7 series in 2008.

Rival station ABS-CBN earned the rights to "Dyesebel," as well as 12 other titles or characters created by Ravelo, in April this year in a deal described by the late novelist's son, Rex, as "the best option." (read story here).

ABS-CBN's adaptation of "Dyesebel" won't be the first time the network is introducing a mermaid character to the Filipino audience.

In 2004, "Marina" starring Claudine Barretto started the trend of fantasy series on local TV. This was followed by "Dyosa" starring Anne Curtis in 2008, and "Aryana" starring Ella Cruz in 2012.

Dreamscape Entertainment will be the one producing the show so expect this as one of the biggest fantasy series ABS-CBN will ever make. The entertainment division of ABS-CBN is behind the hits "Juan dela Cruz," "Ina, Kapatid, Anak," "Walang Hanggan" and "Honesto," among others.
