#GuyInTheRain | Brave Atom Araullo trends on Twitter worldwide for daring coverage of 'Yolanda'

The daring coverage of ABS-CBN News reporter Atom Araullo in Tacloban City, which was battered Friday, November 8, by the world's most powerful typhoon this year, was lauded by netizens as it aired on primetime, making it a top trending topic on Twitter.

Tagged by netizens as the #GuyInTheRain, a spinoff from the recent box-office success She's the One's #GirlInTheRain, Araullo was lauded for braving the strong winds and heavy rain in Tacloban.

Araullo reported live at around 6:40 a.m. Friday from a street in Tacloban for the ABS-CBN morning show "Umagang Kay Ganda," as he described the devastation brought by "Yolanda" (Haiyan) in the area.

A longer version of Araullo’s report was aired again on TV Patrol.

Several others, reacting to Araullo's report, also mentioned CNN carrying the same footage, with an anchor supposedly referring to him as a "brave man."

Shortly after the report aired on "TV Patrol," "Atom Araullo" became the No. 1 trending topic in the Philippines on Twitter, before making it to the worldwide trends.
