While the Philippines is still in anguish with Janet Napoles and still devastated over the earthquake that crashed Cebu, the barangay elections pushes through.
The Barangay elections will take place on October 28, 2013 for the 42, 028 barangays in the entire Philippines. One Barangay Captain and 7 Barangay council will be chosen.
Several propositions were raised for the postponement of the said election eyeing the early part of 2014 or 2015 for its reschedule but President Noynoy Aquino asserted that he is in opposition to the measurement and thus its furtherance.
The Sangguniang Kabataan or SK elections were however shelved after it is seen as a breeding or training ground for future corruption. It is observed that youth running for SK post are heirs of prominent and even incumbent politicians thus seen as a scion of political dynasty. The SK elections however is scheduled to push through sometime between October 28, 2014 to February 23, 2015.
With graft and corruption running rampant in our country, it cannot be put off that people think negatively of the upcoming barangay elections especially that it has been colored with political dynasty. Relatives of incumbent politicians who are seeking for a position tend to use the name of their “star” to attract voters thus even the election of the smallest local government unit in the Philippines is tarnished.
If only people seeking for a post stick to their own propaganda instead of glueing their names with someone else’s; if only the community have learned the real works of public service; then we would have had to seat back and follow someones’ ruling.
Let us build a better Philippines. On Monday, let’s go out and vote. Choose your leader. Vote for the right barangay officials.
