Samsung introduces the Galaxy Round

Samsung Electronics introduced GALAXY ROUND, the world’s first curved display smartphone, to be available October 10.

This smartphone features a curved display, made with the world's first commercialized full HD Super AMOLED flexible display.

Instead of the slight vertical bend seen in the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Samsung Nexus S, this smartphone features a horizontal curve much like a half smile. It's different and will arrive in Korea first.

The curved display of the Round also allows for a nifty little trick.

This is a video of a feature called 'Roll Effect' which uses the curved body of GALAXY ROUND to enable the user to check the date, time, missed calls, battery, etc by slightly 'rolling' the phone over towards one side when the home screen is off. Check it out:

When the GALAXY ROUND’s display is off while the music player is running, a short press to the left of the device will play the previous track while a short press to the right will play the next track.

The back cover features a leather-and-stitch-inspired design, just like the GALAXY Note 3.

It has a 5.7-inch, 1080p HD display; runs Android 4.3.

The Round sports a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor, 32GB of internal storage, 3GB of RAM, and microSD card slot that supports up to 64GB of storage. It also comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera.

The large screen size of the GALAXY ROUND provides additional benefits to users. Useful One-Hand Operation features bring a user’s most desired controls closer to a preferred side of the screen. The device enables enhanced multitasking capabilities that allow users to fully utilize the larger screen through Multi Window, a feature that enables users to open more than one application on the screen, run simultaneous multiple instances of the same application or to easily share content between applications.

The Galaxy Round is currently slated for sale only in Korea, coming in Luxury Brown. Pricing does not appear to have been revealed as press time.
