Comelec postpones barangay polls in Bohol

BY PAUL MICHAEL CAMANIA JARAMILLO

The barangay elections in Bohol will be postponed, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced Monday, October 21.

Chairman Sixto Brillantes did not explain their decision, saying it will be explained in the resolution.

The resolution will be released tomorrow.

Bohol suffered widespread damage from the magnitude 7.2 quake that struck the province last Tuesday, October 15. Local officials earlier asked for a postponement of the polls because of this.

Brillantes said he spent the weekend in Bohol to discuss with the election supervisors on the postponement of the barangay elections in the province.

Bohol is the second area where the polls will be postponed. Elections in Zamboanga City have also been postponed, after the city saw extensive damage brought by the 3-week conflict between government troops and Muslim rebels in September.
