NU Pep Squad wins 2013 UAAP Cheerdance crown


The National University (NU) Cheer Squadron made history as they won the 2013 UAAP Cheer Dance Competition, marking the first time that their team won the highly anticipated annual showcase of UAAP pep squads.

The NU Pep Squad scored 696.5 points to win its first-ever UAAP Cheerdance Championship title, besting 7 other teams with an Arabian-themed routine in the annual spectacle at the packed Mall of Asia Arena.

Dethroned champion University of the Philippines Pep Squad (620.5 points) finished second after its party-inspired performance while De La Salle University (596.5 points) returned to the podium with a routine that featured its cheerdancers clad in military outfit.

The NU Cheer Squadron went home with the top prize of P340,000. UP and La Salle bagged P200, 000.00 and P140, 000.00, respectively.

NU also took home the top prize in the Group Stunts Competition, followed by FEU in second place, and UST in third place.



De La Salle University's Ana de Leon was named the 2013 UAAP Cheer Dance Samsung Stunner, beating NU's Micah Javier and UP's Aya Casim.

The Far Eastern University (FEU) Cheering Squad opened the highly anticipated 2013 UAAP Cheer Dance Competition with an energetic performance Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.



The University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad looked to defend their UAAP Cheer Dance title after it presented a party-inspired routine.



The University of the East (UE) Pepe Squad wowed the crowd with a fiery routine. The UE Pep Squad are seeking a return to the podium. Their best finish came in 2002, when they placed second.



The De La Salle Animo Squad, seeking to return to the podium, presented a military-inspired routine. La Salle last made the podium in 2011, when the Animo Squad placed second. 


The National University (NU) Cheer Squadron channeled the Arabian Nights as they gun for their best-ever finish in the competition.


The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Salinggawi Dance Troupe targeted their ninth UAAP Cheer Dance crown with an Egyptian-styled performance. UST has won eight Cheer Dance titles, tied with the UP Pep Squad. But they last won the championship in 2006.


The Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion channeled the spirit of different sports as they attempted to return to the podium.


The Adamson University Pep Squad closed out the competition with a burlesque-inspired routine.
