INFOGRAPHIC: Education by the Numbers

A look at the state of resources of the Philippine educational system for the School Year 2013-2014 (SEE: School Calendar for the SY 2013-2014).

About 23 million public and private school students nationwide have enrolled.

Data from the Department of Education (DepEd) showed 20,810,781 students were enrolled in public elementary and high schools this school year. Of this number, 1,784,992 students will be in kindergarten, 13,306,661 in elementary and 5,719,128 in high school.

In private schools—wherein classes may start not later than Aug. 4—a total of 3,054,020 students are also expected to go back to school based on last school year’s data. Of this number, 428,981 will be in kindergarten, 1,216,692 in elementary level, and 1,408,347 in high schools.

Last year, K-12 was already introduced into the curriculum of grade 1 and 7 students. This year, DepEd will continue with the grade 2 and 8 curriculum. In subsequent years, a higher grade curriculum both in the elementary and high school will be introduced (grades 3 and 9 in 2014; grades 4 and 10 in 2015) until the grade 11 curriculum in 2016, and grade 12 in the year after.
