FAST FACTS | Miami's Pinoy coach Erik Spoelstra

 
Filipino-American coach Erik Spoelstra has just won back-to-back NBA championships with the Miami Heat after beating the San Antonio Spurs, 95-88, on Thursday (Friday in Manila). 
 
ESPN and ABC analyst Jeff Van Gundy sees the makings of a future Hall of Famer in the Filipino-American coach.
 
Here are quick facts about Coach Spo:
 
* Born on November 1, 1970 (Evanston, Illinois)
* Father: Jon Spoelstra - an NBA executive for the Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets, Buffalo Braves and New Jersey Nets
* Mother: Elisa Celino - a native of San Pablo, Laguna
* First Pinoy and Asian to coach in NBA and to win an NBA Championship title
* Spoelstra joined the Heat in 1995 as the team's video coordinator. He was promoted to other positions before he was named successor of Riley as head coach of Miami in 2008.
* Miami Heat Head Coach (2008 up to present)
* Won two championship titles for Miami as Head Coach
2012 - against Oklahoma City Thunder
2013 - against San Antonio Spurs
* Before focusing on full-time coaching, he played as starting point guard for University of Portland Pilots and was named as West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year
* After college, he was a player and coach of TuS Herten, a German professional basketball team
