Bruno Mars' Filipina mother dies at age 55

The Filipino mother of Grammy-winning pop star Bruno Mars has died in Hawaii. She was 55.

According to a publicist for Mars' label Atlantic Records, Bernadette Hernandez died of a brain aneurysm on Sunday (Manila Time).

Hernandez was a hula dancer and a singer who immigrated from the Philippines and "nurtured her son's interest in music at an early age."

Mars is one of pop’s top acts with several No. 1 hits including his most recent, “When I Was Your Man.”

The Grammy winner visited the Philippines in 2011 for a sold-out concert at the Araneta Coliseum. He has also appeared on billboards for local clothing brand, Bench.
