Minions can speak Filipino?

The 48-second video of the minions, the yellow creatures of the animated hit “Despicable Me,”  has gone viral on social media.

The video was posted by Trivia Mania on Saturday:

“Minions use a bit of Spanish, English, French, Greek, Korean, Japanese, and even Filipino.”

It also quoted the movie’s producer John Cohen as saying: “A lot of times it sounds like it’s gibberish, a lot of times you hear a little bit of French. You hear all kinds of languages being incorporated into the way they speak. And then occasionally, you hear a word or two of English, or that sounds like English, that gives you a sense of what the minions are actually saying."

Photo of Isabelle, Georgina kissing for gay rights goes viral

A photo of celebrity models and cousins Isabelle Daza and Georgina Wilson kissing is making the rounds on social media.

Wilson's mother, Aurora, is the sister of Daza's mom, 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz.

The controversial image was posted a day after the landmark ruling of the US Supreme Court on laws related to same-sex marriage.

The Instagram post comes on the heels of the growing controversy over the gay-themed GMA teleserye "My Husband's Lover," singer Charice Pempengco's coming out and Pugad Baboy's take on lesbianism.

MOVIE REVIEW | Four Sisters and a Wedding

‘Four Sisters and a Wedding’ tackles family issues in comedic and dramatic style. This is a two-in-one movie. The film is about family relationship (rivalry, middle child syndrome, favoritism, black sheep) and a special occasion.

Star Cinema's initial movie offering for its 20th anniversary celebration shares the story of the Salazar siblings.

Director Cathy Garcia Molina made sure that each of the stars was given exposure to shine in this movie.

Teodora ‘Teddie’ Salazar (Toni Gonzaga) is the eldest child who works as a teacher in Spain. Toni successfully portrayed the role as she plays it with her own ‘Toni Gonzaga’ performance. There are parts in this story with double meaning such as when Toni delivered this line: “Sabi ko na may tinatagong baho ang mga bay-ag na ‘yan eh!”

Roberta ‘Bobbie’ Salazar (Bea Alonzo) is a New York-based corporate communications manager. Bea’s character was the star of the show. She has the longest lines delivered.

Alexandra ‘Alex’ Salazar (Angel Locsin) is a Manila-based independent film assistant director. Angel has an adventurous character. She has the most number of memorable scenes – when she took a bath in a gas station and when she dragged Mocha from the bar.

Gabriela ‘Gabbie’ Salazar (Shaina Magdayao) is a school teacher who lives at home together with their mother. With lack of storyline, Shaina has the least exposure but she made her own spotlight.

CJ Salazar (Enchong Dee) is the youngest child and the only guy in the family, who put all his sisters in shock when he announced that he is going to marry his girlfriend for three months, Princess Antuanette Mae Bayag (Angeline Quinto).

CJ’s  fiancée is not an ordinary girl. She’s an only child of a far more well-to-do family.

With only two weeks, the sisters agreed to dissuade their baby brother from marrying his fiancée. But as they interact with each other for the wedding, the Salazar siblings also face the feelings and issues they've tried to keep for the longest time. Lies were revealed.

Carmi Martin’s French accent and Rebiso biscuit placement are unforgettable.

The subject of the story is not only about wedding. It is a family drama, not focusing on mother-father and parents-siblings conflicts, but on sibling relationship.

Some of the moral lessons were emphasized in the relationships of Alex and Bobbie, the matriarch of the family and her siblings, and the eldest and second daughters.

This is about forgiveness and acceptance and how one should learn to appreciate each member of a family.

Also starring in the movie are Coney Reyes and Sam Milby. Completing the cast are Carmi Martin, Boboy Garovillo, Bernard Palanca and Janus del Prado.

‘Four Sisters and a Wedding’ is now showing in all theaters nationwide.

RATING: 8/10

Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino: "Stop using the name 'Pilipinas,' use the 'Filipinas' instead"

The Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) said in a resolution dated April 12, which is going viral this weekend.

National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario, who chairs the KWF, has pushed for the use of “Filipinas” for over two decades.

In the article, “Patayin ang 'Pilipinas' (Kill 'Pilipinas'),” Almario said the country has 3 names: “Filipinas,” “Philippines,” and “Pilipinas.”

"lbinasbas sa atin ang una ng kolonyalismong Espanyol at siya nating opisyal na pangalan sa loob  ng tatlong  siglo.  ltinatawag naman sa atin ang ikalawa ng imperyalismong Amerikano at opisyal nating pangalan ngayon sa Ingles.  Bersiyong Tagalog ng una ang ikatlo at batay sa orihinal na titik ng lumang abakada."

He also said using 3 different names contributes to “national confusion.”

Almario, former dean of the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Arts and Letters, admitted it is costly to shift to "Filipinas." He said it may also be awkward to call UP, for example, as the University of Filipinas.

The KWF proposed the following initial moves:

  • To gradually introduce “Filipinas” in seals, letterheads, notepads, and other materials; and
  • To urge institutions and companies with the name “Pilipinas” to spell it as “Filipinas”

The commission, however, clarified this is not mandatory, especially for institutions established when the letter “F” was not acknowledged in the Filipino alphabet.

'Be Careful With My Heart' apologizes for June 27 telecast

The daytime series' episode aired Thursday had been teased to show the first kiss on the lips of Sir Chief (Richard Yap) and Maya (Jodi Sta. Maria), following the acceptance of the widowed businessman's children of his relationship with their former nanny.

As the episode progressed Thursday, followers of the program took to micro-blogging site Twitter to complain about the apparent imbalance in the volume of the characters' voices and the musical scoring.

Before Thursday's episode of "Be Careful With My Heart" reached its first commercial gap, its telecast stopped, with a programming advisory shortly appearing on screen.

The advisory read: "Due to technical difficulties, today's episode of 'Be Careful With My Heart' will be shown tomorrow."

The live episode of "It's Showtime," the Kapamilya noontime variety program which airs weekdays at 12:30 p.m., was aired earlier in lieu of its lead-in series.

One of noontime show's hosts, Vice Ganda, re-iterated the advisory earlier flashed on screen: "Sa lahat ng sumusubaybay sa 'Be Careful With My Heart,' mapapanood niyo po bukas ang kabuuan ng episode na dapat napanood niyo today."

Direk Laurenti Dyogi admits to being frustrated on the poor set and lighting of 'The Voice of the Philippines'

Director Laurenti Dyogi admitted that he is also not happy with the set design and lightning of "The Voice Of The Philippines."

Many The Voice fans kept on comparing the stage design of the Philippine version to its US and UK counterparts.

In a series of tweets, the ABS-CBN executive aired his displeasure regarding the set and said:

Dyogi admitted they preferred to invest in hiring top-caliber coaches rather than spend so much money on the set.

“Wala sa katiting ang budget namin compared sa kanila plus syndication revenues for them. We concentrate on content na lang . Its our 1st naman,” he tweeted.

While some are comparing The Voice of the Philippines stage with the more popular US and UK version, others can't help but also compare the Philippine version with the franchises of our Southeast Asian neighbors such as Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

“Went to Bangkok, agree they have nicer set! But we decided to allot our limited resources for coaches and artists search,” Direk Lauren pointed out.

Dyogi said they still consider the reality singing show a success since a lot of advertisers have already bought airtime during the show's gaps. He apologized to one fan who complained about the commercials.

Dyogi said the franchise owners approved the set and the lightning of the show, and that it would have to do for now.

Direk Lauren has a message to all the critics ranting about the set and lighting of The Voice of the Philippines.

Her Mother's Daughter: 'Ina Kapatid Anak' to air internationally

"Ina, Kapatid, Anak," the recently concluded drama series starring Kim Chiu and Maja Salvador, will be the latest ABS-CBN program to air in foreign territories, after the international successes of shows like "Pangako Sa'Yo (read information here)," "Magkaribal" and "Lobo."

Retitled "Her Mother's Daughter" for its international audience, "Ina, Kapatid, Anak" was highlighted in ABS-CBN's exhibits at the Marché International des Programmes de Télévision (MIPTV) in France last April and at DISCOP West Asia in Turkey last March.

Along with "Her Mother's Daughter," ABS-CBN International Distribution also exhibited at these events the Kapamilya network's "biggest hits" in recent years -- the Coco Martin- and Julia Montes-starrer "Walang Hanggan," which has the English title "My Eternal (watch promotional video here)"; and the "kilig-serye" starring Richard Yap and Jodi Sta. Maria, the ongoing "Be Careful With My Heart."

As of January this year, the first commercial TV station in Malaysia has already acquired 95 hours of content from ABS-CBN -- including "My Binondo Girl" and "My Girl," the 2011 and 2008 series which both starred Chiu; and "Mara Clara," the 2010 remake of the well-loved 1992 soap opera.

Other ABS-CBN programs that have aired in Malaysia, among them through pay-TV channel Astro Bella, are "Dahil May Isang Ikaw," "Magkaribal (watch TV plug here)," "Prinsesa ng Banyera," "Impostor," "Imortal," "Budoy" and "Iisa Pa Lamang."

Over the years, Kapamilya drama series have also been dubbed in English, Khmer, Mandarin, Bahasa Melayu, Vietnamese, Turkish, Russian and French. They have also been subtitled in Bahasa Melayu and Romanian.

Considered as ABS-CBN's premiere "teleserye" offering, "Pangako Sa'Yo," aside from airing in Cambodia, will get a local adaptation in the country produced by the Cambodian Television Network. The TV station had earlier scheduled production on the remake to start in the first half of 2013.
