Iglesia Ni Cristo releases list of its senatorial bets

IT'S OFFICIAL. The powerful Iglesia ni Cristo, which is known to vote as a bloc, has issued its list of senatorial candidates with seven from the administration Liberal Party Coalition and five from the opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

From the administration, the list includes: Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino, Grace Poe-Llamanzares, Loren Legarda, Antonio Trillanes IV, Cynthia Villar, and Alan Peter Cayetano.

From the opposition, the list includes: JV Ejercito, Richard Gordon, Nancy Binay, Gregorio Honasan, and Jack Enrile.

The INC also released the list of seven party-list groups it is supporting.

They are: Citizens Battle Against Corruption (Cibac), Buhay Hayaang Yumabong (Buhay), Arts Business and Science Professionals (ABS), Alliance of Volunteer Educators (AVE), Anti-Crime and Terrorism thru Community Involvement & Support (ACT-CIS), the Social Amelioration and Genuine Intervention on Poverty (1-SAGIP) and Aagapay sa Matatanda (AMA).

The bloc-voting of Iglesia Ni Cristo is expected to play a key role on who’s in and who’s out in this year’s senatorial elections especially in the tightly fought bottom three slots of the 12-seat race.

The Iglesia ni Cristo observes unity even in electing public officials (Philippians 2:2-3; I Corinthians 1:10). This is not interference in politics, but in obedience to God’s commandment. This unity is never betrayed by a true member of the Church, even if some would be displeased.

They observe this unity in the name of Christ, to the glory of God (I Corinthians 1:10; 10:31). Division or schism is strictly forbidden because Christ is not divided. Divisions and strife are earthly, sensual, and devilish (I Corinthians 1:10, 13; James 3:14-15).

The INC has an estimated five to eight million voters among its congregation.
