Republic Act No. 10515 | Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013

Philippine President Benigno Aquino III has approved a measure which seeks to protect cable television (CATV) and cable internet providers.

Deputy spokesman Abigail Valte confirmed in news briefing that Aquino has signed Republic Act no. 10515 or the "Anti-Cable Television and Cable Internet Tapping Act of 2013" on April 17.

The law prohibits and penalizes the unauthorized interception, reception, or use of any signal or service over a cable television system or cable internet system and/or network.

Violators face penalties of imprisonment of not less than two years but not more than five years or a fine of not less than Php50,000 not more than Php100,000, or both at the discretion of the court.

The measure was pushed by lawmakers amid concerns the industry has reportedly lost P6.3 billion every year from cable theft.
