Laoag local bet Carlos Fariñas withdraws from vice mayoral race to give way to his uncle

17 days before the polls, Laoag City vice mayoral candidate Carlos Fariñas withdrew from the race to give way to his uncle, outgoing Mayor Michael Fariñas.

The son of Ilocos Norte Rep Rodolfo Fariñas filed his motion to withdraw a few days ago before the local office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The vice mayoral race is now between his uncle and lawyer Christian "Kris" Ablan (Lakas), son of the Fariñas clan's longtime political rival, former Ilocos Norte Rep Roque Ablan.

The outgoing mayor's wife Chevylle and his uncle former Mayor Roger Fariñas are running against each other for city mayor.

Rep Rudy Fariñas is running unopposed in the 1st District.

Gov. Imee Marcos, who is backing Chevylle Fariñas, and Vice Gov. Angelo Barba are also unopposed.
