Philippines’ First Bullet Train: Clark-Metro Manila

The $1.43-billion (53 billon) Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) and the $3-billion (123 billon) Clark-Metro Manila Bullet Train Project will be constructed under Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) schemes, the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) said.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will finance the $1.23-billion Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7).

The initial construction will be put up in Barangay Tala in San Jose Del Monte. The new MRT line will run through Fairview, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City Memorial Circle and North EDSA. The final station will be constructed in the Paramount theater in front of SM North EDSA and the Triangle of North Manila (TriNoMa) mall.

NEDA added that the new lane will be connected to the now operational LRT-MRT Closing Loop Interconnection Project. Once the MRT-7 Line is completed, the Paramount Station will be a Mega Rail Station.

Philippines will soon have its first high-speed rail transit (bullet train) after Manny Pangilinan’s Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) expresses its intention to finance the $3-billion project.

The bullet train will run between the lanes of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and will connect Clark International Airport to Makati or Manila.

When completed, the new transport system will shorten the 2-hour Manila to Clark travel time to 45 minutes.

Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) said the project will be called "Express Airport Trains."

The bullet trains' planned stopovers are Balintawak or near TriNoMa or SM North in Quezon City; Manila like Dimasalang or University of Sto. Tomas; and Makati at Buendia Avenue.

Recreation of the world's first website

In a new statement released on Tuesday, April 30, CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research,  announced it would work on restoring the world's first website.

This project aims to preserve some of the digital assets that are associated with the birth of the web.

For a start we would like to restore the first URL - put back the files that were there at their earliest possible iterations. Then we will look at the first web servers at CERN and see what assets from them we can preserve and share. We will also sift through documentation and try to restore machine names and IP addresses to their original state. Beyond this we want to make http://info.cern.ch - the first web address - a destination that reflects the story of the beginnings of the web for the benefit of future generations.

It's been 20 years since CERN first published the document that would allow for the World Wide Web to exist.

Wearing a sober purple dress, Beatrix signed the abdication document in front of the Dutch cabinet, Willem-Alexander and Maxima, who wore a pale rose-coloured dress with a shimmery skirt and enormous bow on her left shoulder.

Willem-Alexander, a 46-year-old water management specialist, is expected to bring a less formal touch to the monarchy together with Maxima, a former investment banker from Argentina.

Beatrix chose to retire after 33 years in the role, following in the tradition of her mother and grandmother.

Are Kris Aquino and Lino Cayetano dating?

The two were spotted arriving together at the birthday party of Daniel Padilla last Friday.

According to a reliable source of “The Buzz,” Aquino and Cayetano arrived at Padilla’s house in Quezon City at the same time.

While Cayetano proceeded to talk to Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, “The Buzz” caught on video how the TV director stole glances at Aquino while she was talking to Padilla’s mother, actress Karla Estrada.

The two also left the party at the same time.

The source of “The Buzz” said Cayetano escorted Aquino to her car first before leaving the place.

Asked in a previous interview how his friendship with Aquino developed, Cayetano said, "I met her before through Liz Uy (fashion stylist, also Cayetano's former girlfriend), tapos sa ABS nagkikita kami, then more and more nag-uusap kami."

"Sa akin, it's simple lang -- we're friends. If there's anything more to it, siguro people will know naman, if that ever happens," he added.

On the possibility of working with Aquino on a project, Cayetano added, "Yeah, for sure, I would love to work with her. Ako, I'm attracted to strong and smart women. My ate (Senator Pia Cayetano) is like that, so wala naman problema sa akin 'yun." - ABS-CBN News

Alleged vote-buying in Ilocos caught on video

'Sta Marian' uploaded an almost 6-minute video of incumbent Mayor of Sta Maria, Edgar Florendo, in Ilocos Sur allegedly giving away P1,000 bills under his own pulyetos.

Mayor Edgar Florendo is LP's bet in the mayoral race in Sta Maria, Ilocos Sur.

The mayoral bet was seen in a yellow shirt and cap inside a room, counting the people inside and counting some bills behind his clutch bag.

The incumbent mayor said, "Awan iti inyaw-awat ko kadakayo ah (I did not give you anything)," which was meant as a running joke because the people in the video were laughing.

Local TV stations said the video was given to them by Kristine Gapusan of Aksyon Demokratiko, Florendo's opponent.

Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Resolution 9615 Section 31 prohibits any person from giving anything of value before and after public meetings.
