Richard Gomez, Albert Martinez and Gabby Concepcion topbill Iglesia Ni Cristo movie "Ang Sugo (The Last Messenger)"

Richard Gomez was chosen to portray the role of  Iglesia Ni Cristo's first Executive Minister Felix Manalo in the upcoming historic movie "Ang Sugo (The Last Messenger)".

The movie which will feature the three generations of INC leadership beginning from the time it was founded in 1914, will also star Albert Martinez (the late Eraño Manalo who took leadership of the INC in the 1950s after Felix Manalo) and Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr. (Eduardo Manalo, the current Executive Minister of INC).

UPDATE: Bong Revilla backs out of Iglesia Ni Cristo Centennial movie

Completing the cast are Snooky Serna, Dawn Zulueta, Gladys Reyes and Congresswoman Lani Mercado.

"It’s really a privilege to be chosen as Ka Felix Manalo. Happy ako at excited na gampanan yung role. This is historical. Pinapakita dito kung paano nagsimula ang Iglesia ni Cristo. Ipapakita dito 'yung generations na dumaan pagkatapos ni Felix Manalo," Goma said during the presscon held at he Quezon City Sports Club on Tuesday, November 27.

Senator Bong, meanwhile, hopes he could give justice on the role. "Hindi na Bong Revilla the action star ang makikita niyo. For the first time, kumbaga isang ka-Eduardo ang makikita nila sa 'Sugo.' Pag-aaralan natin 'yung galaw niya, pananalita niya, mannerisms niya. Malaking hamon ito."

While Albert cannot contained his happiness being chosen to play the most important role he could ever portray in his showbiz career.

"Kaya kailangan talaga in detail, pag-aaralan ko, the person, the man, the dream, the passion, lahat ng iyon. Kailangan ko rin malaman how he addressed his followers, at kailangan ko rin ma-imbibe kung ano ang nararamdaman niya when he does that. It doesn't happen everyday. 'Yung happiness ko as an actor, hindi ko ma-explain. It's something na hindi ko ma-imagine, but I'm really, really honored. I'm finally in the stage of my career na nakagawa ako ng ganitong klaseng pelikula."

Directed by Tikoy Aguiluz and written by Arlyn dela Cruz, "Ang Sugo (The Last Messenger)" will hit theaters in July 2014.

Pinay jigsaw puzzler sets Guinness world record

From Mona Lisa to Mickey Mouse, a Philippine guesthouse owner has pieced together over a thousand jigsaw puzzles, and on Thursday her collection was officially declared the world's largest.

"It was just a hobby at first. It takes away my stress," Gina Gil Lacuna, 61, told AFP as she was awarded her certificate of recognition by Guinness World Records.

But the pastime, which she took up 26 years ago, turned into an obsession that has seen her collect a total of 1,028 different puzzles, framed wall to wall at her two-story bed and breakfast.

The puzzles form pictures of religious figures, animals and landscapes, and even Philippine President Benigno Aquino, with the largest containing over 18,000 pieces.

Her guesthouse, in the resort city of Tagaytay just outside the Philippine capital, is known as "Puzzle Mansion".

"She is very disciplined lady. Every day, she spends three or four hours doing puzzles," said Guinness adjudicator Seyda Subasi Gemici, adding that all the jigsaws had to be different and with all the pieces complete to count towards the total.

Her collection surpasses the previous record of 238 puzzles held by a Brazilian woman, Guinness officials said, and she is already working on 20 new puzzles so she can retain her title.

Galaxy-squatting black hole set for the record books

Artistic impression from NASA shows a close-up of a supermassive black holeAstronomers on Wednesday said they had found possibly the biggest black hole ever observed, a leviathan with a mass 17 billion times that of the Sun, brooding at the heart of a distant galaxy.

The black hole is as unexpected as it is vast, for it accounts for nearly a seventh of its galaxy's mass, a finding that may rewrite theories of cosmic formation, they said.

Named NGC 1277, the monster lies 220 million light years away in a small galaxy just a tenth the size of our Milky Way.

The hole's maw is more than 11 times wider than Neptune's orbit around the Sun.

It accounts for a whopping 14 percent of the galaxy's mass, compared with the 0.1 percent that is the norm for galactic black holes.

"This is a really oddball galaxy," said Karl Gebhardt of the University of Texas at Austin in a press release.

"It's almost all black hole. This could be the first object in a new class of galaxy black hole systems."

NGC 1277 is already the second biggest black hole ever observed, and it is a strong contender for the top spot, for the current record holder, spotted in 2011, has still not been precisely calculated. It is somewhere between six and 37 billion solar masses.

Black holes are the most powerful known forces in the Universe, creating a gravitational field that is so strong that even light cannot escape from it.

A black hole of stellar mass is formed when a very big star collapses in on itself at the end of its life.

It may then grow by gobbling up other stars and merging with other black holes, sometimes creating "supermassive" black holes which scientists say inhabit the centres of galaxies.

NGC 1277 challenges part of the galactic black hole theory because of its size relative to its galaxy.

In addition, it sits at the centre of a small disc-shaped galaxy, whereas a black hole of this size would have been expected in a far bigger blob-like, or "elliptical," galaxy.

Further work is needed to confirm whether NGC 1277 is a one-off or part of a hitherto-overlooked process of black hole creation.

"The galaxy hosting the new black hole appears to have formed more than eight billion years ago, and does not appear to have changed much since then," the Max Planck Institute said.

"Whatever created this giant black hole must have happened a long time ago."

‘Amalayer Song’ by Isaiah and Andrai Antonio gets viral after Gandang Gabi Vice stint

The “Amalayer” incident has been spoofed so many times on YouTube but two cuties made it into a song. Antonio Brothers, Isaiah and Andrai, guested on Gandang Gabi Vice Sunday night to demonstrate the “Amalayer Song” which is getting more viral as of this posting.

Isaiah and Andrai Antonio are known for making covers of popular songs with the former as lead vocalist while playing a ukelele or small guitar and the latter as back-up singer while playing an acoustic guitar. It’s also Andrai who edits the videos of their covers and uploads it on Isaiah’s YouTube account (isaiahantonio).

During their guesting on “Gandang Gabi Vice,” the Antonio Brothers performed the “Amalayer Song” which, according to them, was based exactly from what Amalayer girl Paula Jamie Salvosa said in the viral video “Random Girl at LRT." The duo put music to it and turned some of it in rap.

The Antonio Brothers put a disclaimer on the YouTube page of their “Amalayer” Parody which so far has already accumulated 379,833 hits:
We used everything she said in the video of her. turned it into a song with an original melody, in the correct order. thanks for watching! :) please understand that this was just for fun. we are in no way continuing to bully ms. paula salvosa. We know that her situation is tough on her. so we did this to make everyone happy! haha!

ER Ejercito is 'El Presidente'

“El Presidente” is the title of the movie that actor-turned politician ER Ejercito, now governor of Laguna after serving as mayor of Pagsanjan for three terms, is set to do this year. It’s a film project that he has been so passionate about the past 12 years or so. But is the title any indication of ER’s ultimate political goal? He just smiled enigmatically and said, “I’ve already been president – of the Actors’ Guild of the Philippines!”

But seriously, he said his real intention in making the movie is to come out with the truth about Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, hailed as one of the greatest generals in Philippine history who fought for Philippine Independence. ER cited eight other historical justifications for the project: Aguinaldo was the founder of the First Philippine Republic; Aguinaldo was the power and the glory behind the Filipinos’ struggle for freedom and independence; Aguinaldo was a statesman, a patriot and the greatest leader of the Philippine Revolution; Aguinaldo was responsible for creating the Philippine Flag, the National Anthem, the Philippine Constitution, and ultimately, the First Philippine Republic; Aguinaldo was credited for uniting and unifying variouys regional factions into a Filipino nation; Aguinaldo was the Revolutionary Hero who signaled the Filipinos’ ground armed resistance against Spain, and later against America; Aguinaldo represented the Filipinos’ moment of glory during the 1898 Revolution; and Aguinaldo proclaimed Philippine Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898.

It’s time to do a commercial epic film about General Aguinaldo, in the tradition of “Gandhi,” “Revolution,” “Braveheart,” “Troy” and “The Last Samurai,” ER stressed.

ER intends to finish the movie this year, after 12 years of research by historians (Jose Mari Avellana and Jose Victor Torres) and writing of the script (by Roy Iglesias). All the controversies in the life of General Aguinaldo – like the summary execution of Andres Bonifacio and Antonio and the Treaty of Paris – will all be presented in the movie, “because we cannot reverse what was written in the books,” he said.

The film project has the support of former Prime Minister Cesar E.A. Virata, grand nephew of General Aguinaldo; the living descendants of General Aguinaldo, the National Historical Institute, the National Commission on Culture and the Arts, the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the Kapisanan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon, SM Cinama, Robinsons Galleria Theaters and Ayala Theaters, as well as the Department of Education and CHED.

It will be a two-and-half-hour movie to be directed by Tikoy Aguiluz (who said he was inspired and challenged to direct the film because of Aguinaldo’s complex character that remained so till the end), and the story will start with Aguinaldo in a wheelchair when he was already in his 90s, ER said.

Batangas Governor Villma Santos-Recto has agreed to play Aguinaldo’s second wife, we were told. ER said he’s considering getting Iza Calzado to play the role of Aguinaldo’s first wife.

ER also announced during the press conference for “El Presidente” that he would also like to do a remake of the film “Asiong Salonga,” which first starred former President Joseph Estrada in 1961, then Rudy Fernandez in 1978.
