Fil-Ams try out for 'The Voice Philippines'

Auditions kick off in US

Numerous Filipino-Americans have tried their luck at "The Voice of the Philippines" auditions held at One Kapamilya Go.

The annual gathering of Filipinos organized by The Filipino Channel (TFC) was held at the Great America Theme Park in Santa Clara, California.

Siblings Jacob and Sarah were among those who took their chances.

They didn't  tell their father, a church minister, that they were auditioning. They say he only wants them to sing gospel music and focus on serving in church.

"It is a big challenge but you just have to follow what your mind and heart says,” Jacob said.

"Now, we're doing what we want to do. We're singing all types of genres. That's what we love to do,” Sarah said.

Meanwhile, a young Pinay singer is thankful her entire family is behind her in her pursuit of stardom.
Ellona, who made it to top 12 of “The X-Factor USA,” has been singing since she was three.

"My family, they're really supportive, and that means so much to me because it motivates me even more to do my best and the greatest job ever that I can,” she said.

“The Voice” is a popular singing competition in the United States. What sets this talent show apart is its “blind auditions.”

And now, “The Voice” is coming to the Philippines, to be aired on ABS-CBN next year. Aside from Santa Clara, California, talent searches were also held in Los Angeles recently.

Director Lauren Dyogi said what he looks for is sheer talent.

"Somebody who has an exceptional voice. Compared to the other formats that we have, ‘X-Factor’ and ‘Pilipinas Got Talent,’ ‘The Voice’ is clearly about someone who has an exceptional singing voice,” Dyogi said.

It remains uncertain if these Filipino-Americans will go far in “The Voice of the Philippines,” but what's certain is that they have the passion for music and drive to make it big someday.
