'say YES to PROGRESS' (YES Camp Experience)

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Special Concerns Office Youth Desk, the Kabataang Sama-Samang Maglilingkod (KASAMA), Inc. and the Department of Education-Center for Students and Co-Curricular Affairs conducted the 7th Youth for Environment Summer (YES) Camp last April 26 - 30, 2009 at the Teachers Camp, Baguio City. The camp had the following objectives: (1) develop students' awareness on the state of the environment and (2) instill environmental values in every student to motivate actual involvement in programs and projects for the environment.

Activities during the YES Camp included interactive and fun plenary sessions, panel discussions, action planning, field exposures, outdoor activities and contests, such as poetree-writing and interpretation, on-the-spot poster-making, debate, story-telling, Sayaw at Awit sa Kalikasan, quiz bee, Search for the Lakambini and Lakan ng Kalikasan, exhibits, debate and many more!

Over 5,000 high school and college students, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials, and teachers participated.
April 26, 2009, when we left Ilocos Sur at 3:00am. Before that date, we conducted a meeting. We decided to left Ilocos at 2:00am (see the difference...1 hour). Pero salamat na rin kay Lolo Sarap, tinulungan kaming (Ma'am Luz and I kasi nga I'm the president of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization- LNHS Chapter) makipag-usap sa kanila. We have just arrived at 9:30am.
Talagang minamalas naman oh! Ang daming tao. Haba ng pila. Isang pila sa ID. Isang pila sa registration. Isang pila sa bags and t-shirts. Isang pila sa envelopes and tickets.
My poetry-writing contest exactly started at 6:00pm.

One thing I cannot forget, Jeem, Macon and I walked from Starwood Hotel to SM City Baguio (just to find a computer shop?haha) We ended walking in the Session Road.

Nilakad namin. Malas talaga! Naulanan kami. No choice!
5:30am we went to Teachers' Camp just to post their YES-O Exhibit (Thanks to Mark Kevin Velasco for doing the design).

We cramped with the people participated during our last night's activity because the Gigger Boys wher Sam Concepcion (DepEd Youth Spokesperson), Enchong Dee, AJ Perez (may you rest in peace), Robi Domingo, Aaron Villaflor, Dino Imperial.

YES Camp was a fun experience. We learn and we appreciate the environment. We love Mother Earth.

The world as we know it today has changed radically. Global alarms on the status of our environment are being sounded almost incessantly. We all need to respond accordingly with an unknown urgency and resoluteness. We need our planet more than it need us. This is the significant call of our times.
Let us Proactive.
Let us not wait anymore.
Let us do something.
Join us in our environmental crusade!
