Another Singson

It’s official: his youngest brother will take the Congress seat of Ronald Singson, who resigned after being sentenced in Hong Kong on drug trafficking charges.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed Sunday Vigan Vice Mayor Ryan Luis Singson of Bileg Party as the new 1st District representative of Ilocos Sur, following the holding of special polls in the northern province.

Comelec Commissioner Elias Yusoph, in charge of the special elections in Ilocos Sur, said in a phone interview, “The special elections here in Ilocos Sur is considered peaceful and clean. . . . There were no incidents of violence.”

Singson won a total of 71,995 votes from his townsmen, defeating rival Bertrand Baterina, a lawyer, who had 30,445 votes.

Yusoph said the canvassing ended past midnight Sunday.

There are a total of 161, 975 registered voters in the 1st District, with 11 municipalities; and a 63.55-percent voters’ turnout.

The new elected congressman, son of longtime politician Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, was endorsed by LP-Ilocos Sur president and Councilor France Ranches even though he represents Bileg Party; while Baterina was supported by former Board Member Efren Rafanan, who lost to Chavit Singson in last year’s gubernatorial race.

Singson, together with his sisters, was teary-eyed when he received the news.

Before his political career, Ryan Singson was managing and running his own Vigan Plaza Hotel in Ilocos Sur.

“But like most are wont to say, the destined never knows his destiny until he is there,” Ryan Singson remarked after he won the vice mayoral seat in the May 10, 2010 elections.

The new congressman considered his victory an early birthday present as he will celebrate his 31st birthday on June 1, Wednesday.

‘No drugs’

Singson vowed to keep a clean slate as he takes hold of his Congress duties, saying he will take a drug test if necessary.

He stressed, however, that he will resume the pending projects of his brother Ronald.

On the other hand, the congressman’s father, Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson called on the rest of the province to cooperate with the new leader.

SilentVoice Points: The people's reactions on the Special Elections Results

Hats off to Ilocos Sur

Kastoy ti kina-duldog dagiti lumugar ti Ilocos Sur. Nakappapati nga un-unay ti kinabileg nga agpayso ti gita ni J-Lo (Jueteng Lord).
Mabuhay ang Ilocos Sur! Ta ukininayonto manen!
Each fool is articulate, period!

Here we go again

People in Ilocos Sur had spoken. This clan of maggots must be the only ALIVE candidate in the area that has to offer. per the article "Singson, together with his sisters, was teary-eyed when he received the news".
Teary-eyed because they had been smoking dope and they already knew they won the election even before the voting started.

i was right....

Gov. singson will do everything under his power to preserve the honor of his family and maintain political clout of ilocos sur.

The is the reason why

The is the reason why corruption in this country just goes on and on from generation to generation. It seems so hopeless. It is the same people, the same families with power and money, and nobody seems to know as how and where exactly they got their enormous wealth from.

After decades of local mismanagement and misappropriation of funds, the people of Ilocos Sur never learned. Was there a change in their province's face after all those years? The only change I saw is that Zoo and that Mansion. Pathetic. It is either the voters are uneducated or just plain stupiddd or both. They all deserve the kind of government that they get.

All in the family

Yes, beautiful just another member of the criminal family in power. More corruption, cheating, lousy decisions. You really know how to pick them!

SilentVoice Points: My Points

The people had spoken. No doubt. He won. The brother of Ronald Singson. The son of Chavit Singson. I don't want to question everything. That is the people's choice and that is their right. I have only one wish, one word, not for Ryan, not for Chavit but for the people, Baro a Ilocos Sur!
